This happened last night at a V-Boys game. The L is about to give the ball to A1 for the second of two free throws. B1 walks over to talk to the coach and asks for a drink. The coach hands him a Gatorade bottle. The L who was administering the free throws hit B1 with a T. The explanation given to the coach was that there was a new rule this year that you can't have drinks on the floor. I haven’t heard of this one. I know if he had stepped off the floor you could whack him for that. I can't find it in the rule book. Has anyone else heard of this rule?

There is no such rule, new or otherwise.

No. This sounds like maybe it's an extreme misinterpretation of the emphasis on keeping players in their bench area (RE: a player leaves the bench area to go to the end of the gym to get a drink from the fountain).

There's an old volleyball rule about water not being on the floor during time-outs, but even that one was changed to say, "water spilled on the floor during a time out must be cleaned up before the time out ends." Maybe he's harking back to that old one.

If he thinks he's at a volleyball game, years ago, then he's got bigger problems than just missing this call. :)
