A1 shooting first of 2 free throws. Violations on both a2, and b1, one did not cause the other. What's the procedure? Case book only clarifies if 1-1, or last throw (at least that's all I could find).

Assuming both A2 and B1 are along the lane, penalize the first, ignore the second.

See rule 9-1PENALTY4(b). That says that you penalize the double violation as per Rule 9-1PENALTY3- which says that any remaining FT's are administered or you go to an AP throw-in at closest spot if it happened on a 1/1 or the last FT.

Btw, If A2 violated first, you ignore the team B violation. Above should say either there was simultaneous violations or a team B violation followed by a team A violation- if that was what you meant..

Double Violation, if the free throw was good, wave it off and go to the AP.

On the first of two free throws? You may wanna think about that one. It's wrong.

Uhmmm...so you would take away A's second free throw??? I think maybe you read the original post wrong - it was the first of two shots...

This got me what I was looking for. Your right, I meant to indicate simultaneous violations. 9-1PENALTY3 fits my case.

Now for the actual situation. Players line up for the free throw. Team b has the low blocks, and one next to shooter. Team a has 2nd space on one side, and 2nd and 3rd space on the other side. During the free throw (ball left throwers hand), b1 steps into the lane too early. Officials only called the violation on team b. Should they have called a simultaneous violation?

[/B][/QUOTE]Now you go to R9-1PENALTY4(a)- "If both offenders are in a marked lane space, the second violation is ignored, as in penalty item (2)". Officials got it right if B violated before A. Got it wrong if the A and B players on the lane stepped in together (simultaneous). Judgement call.

No. They should have only called the violation on A. A violated first by having players in the incorrect spots. Wave off the first FT, get the players lined up correctly and administer the second throw.

Better yet, discover the "violation" on A before giving the ball to the thrower.

Good catch, Bob. Gotta start reading these questions closer. Missed A having too many players along the lane.
