Thumbs up

Let's each post just one, and have it be basketball officiating related. I'll start.

I resolve to always say to my partner "Good call" whenever he or she makes a tough call against the home team in a close game in a really noisy gym. I think this means a lot coming from a partner when everyone else is yelling bad things at you.

Mine is make brief eye contact with both of my partners EVERY TIME, before I administer the final free throw, or put the ball in play.

Oh, and to change my signature line....

To stay focused in the game and KNOW when the 7th Team foul occurs as it is called (NOT when the table tells me) and so I can immediately identify the shooter.

Mark,

I agree. I think this is really important. I always do this as well whether it is the home team or visiting team. If it's a tough call..."Nice call _______" (whoever makes the call)!!!

You mean you actually know your partner's name? I never do, except when it's Juulie - and I usually just refer to her as the "Queen Of Babe-A-Lonia".

Well most of the time I do! If not, I just shorten it to "Nice call!"

To take the animation out of my mechanics. I don't have to sell every call.

I resolve to always look at the clock before I inbounds the ball. I have been caught a few times with timers errors that could have been resolved easily if I had looked at the clock.

This is my New Year's Resolution:

When my mother-in-law begins to yell and shout,
I will try my hardest not to throw her out.

I resolve this resolution, here is why --
I'm afraid of hitting someone passing by!

--- Tom Lehrer

Oh, wait, you wanted basketball related. Okay, here goes --

I resolve to get the shooter's number more and more often until by next season I'm getting it every time.

Oh, and lose the 10 pounds I gained this fall, and keep it off next fall!

I vow to always get my hand up in the air. Opened or closed depending upon the call.

Make eye contact with my partner(s), and stay on top of the game.

I resolve to always expect the buzzer at the end of quarters. TWICE this year I have been caught off guard.

And at half time, I always quiz myself about who the speaking captains are. I've only remembered about two or three times. This is small, but needs to be addressed.

And...

And...

And...
