Question

I know we have had the discussion before about those Livstrong bracelets that everyone is wearing. I remember that the consensus was that the were jewelry and prohibited. Someone also mentioned that the NCAA has specifically ruled that they were jewelry.

Now to my question. I was watching the NBA today (Pacers-Pistons) and several of the player were wearing them. I know one player for Detroit had one on each arm. Doesn't the NBA prohibit jewelry too?

Lightbulb Not the same levels.

Maybe the NBA does not consider them jewelry. Their rules are not always the same as the NCAA or NF.

Rules??? Rules??? We're talking about the NBA. A player can punch a fan in the face and then play on Christmas day.
Money rules the NBA.
I will NEVER watch another NBA game.

You can't blame that on the NBA, Nev. That wasn't their doing.

I do not know of any pro level that follows the same rules and practices of the NCAA and NF Rulebook. Remember these guys are getting paid millions of dollars. These are not kids that cannot "feed their families" by playing basketball. The NBA has a collective bargaining agreement to dictate certain rules and regulations to run the league. I am sure there is not big push to make those things jewelry. Could they outlaw them? Of course they could. When I watch Major League Baseball I see pitchers wearing jewelry all the time that does not apply to the NCAA or the NF levels. I did not realize this was such a big deal.

Nobody said it was a big deal. The initial poster simply asked a question.

Well the little rant seemed by Nevadaref seemed a bit much. That is just an opinion. No harm, no foul.

It was commenting on the general state of affiars in the NBA, not necessarily the jewelry issue, which you were addressing.

This is said often. If you don't want to watch the NBA YOU are the one missing out. It is not the same as the college game. Period. It is the best basketball with the best refs, IMO, in the world. The game is slightly challenged by greed and that is the same as many other areas in the USA. We would be Olympic champions if the players were paid 3 million each to play. Without the money our best players were busy. If you was an executive you would pay big money to have O'Neal back for the Christmas game against the Pistons. It is driven by money but the play is still the best in the world and the officials are outstanding. They have the most rules to worry about and they are on the same page across the board.

Nevada, tell the fellas I said hi and happy holidays.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Georgia.

I find it funny that the NBA and WNBA let the players get away with these rubber bracelets, because the jewelry rule is one of the few rules that is exactly the same for all of the rules codes: NFHS, NCAA Men's/Women's, NBA/WNBA, and FIBA. Jewelry is prohibited.
