Blow horn on all subs even if we are calling them into game.
Do not blow horn unless it is necessary during game.
Call us over on dead ball if necessary.

Official Book Keeper:
Every time you hear the whistle, stop and look at us
Nod if you have the number we signal you
Keep us informed of the foul count… 6 and 9 fouls
Give us eye contact at all times

Coaches Meeting:
Meet with coaches at 1:30 mark
Ask:
Are players properly equipped and dressed?
Who is going to give us the length of time out?

Jump ball coverage:
Ball goes behind the referee’s back…who will call it
Violations: Jumper and Non-jumper
Possession Arrow: Both our jobs
When does official go to the backcourt to chase ball

Fast Break Situation:
Run with the play…if play goes to paint
LEAD takes the PASS
TRAIL takes the CRASH

Court Coverage:
Square up to the area or the ball (whatever you are officiating)
Basic area of responsibility
Discuss gray areas
Use proper coverage
ONE set of eyes on the ball
Work your area hard, ball or no ball
Closely guarded count goes into next area---Keep it!
It’s a game of angles
Keep moving…look active…stay upright…don’t look like your trying to find
something…let play finish

Out of Bounds:
If I need help…signals to use
Wrong call out of bounds
Front court takes the ball out on your out lines
Trail official handles all backcourt inbounds
Bump and run in the backcourt only

In Bounds:
Make sure play is boxed and sidelines are covered
Make eye contact before putting ball in play
Bump and run in the backcourt (over and back?)
Do not bump and run in the frontcourt (take ball out on your whistle lines)
Do not ever bounce ball in the frontcourt on the base line
Lead can bounce ball up his sideline in frontcourt (free throw line extended is the limit)
Always bounce ball as lead (new trail) in backcourt when possible
You can bounce the ball from the middle of the key or farther in the backcourt on the baseline (do not switch if possible)

Full Court Press:
New lead lags back to assist if needed
Keep play boxed in
Lead should give ground as play advances
Be aware of trap areas

Make eye contact…make sure you have same call…take call if play was coming at you

Bread & Butter Plays:
Review block/charge
See the whole play
Key the defense
Screening
Goal tending & basket interference

Advantage/Disadvantage

Before and After Free Throw Responsibilities:
Partner should let you know if ball went in…if not step in his way
Partner should know everything you know before you go to table Make sure you get shooter or ask your partner to. Make sure to give spot out of bounds
Go slow at the table Make sure they understand you
Off official
Keep game moving during dead ball
Get players ready for next play
Both officials make sure alignment is correct

Positions during time out
Timeout delay tactics
Blow whistle…put ball on floor
Sound whistle after time out or after long delay

3 Point Shot:
Review court responsibilities to be sure all areas are covered
When in doubt it is a 2!!!
Change a 2 to 3, but not 3 to 2

Technical Fouls :
Tolerance…
You know how much you will take
I know how much I will take
If you warn coach or a player tell your partner
Call…
It professionally
Report it
Get it shot
Get it back in play as soon as possible

Subs:
Only one policeman
Put ball in play after you take final count
Hand is stop sign not to stop the clock
Face your partner

Half Time:
Check table
Change arrow
Get out of there
Discuss any problems in locker room

That's really thorough, a good solid pre-game outline.

Just some advice, do this before you leave home, if you're checking at the site to see if you've got everything you're doing it a bit late.

10 to go

Good infomation, my evaluator told me at one of my games that I spend too much time with the captains. So its short and sweet now.

giving credit

took this information from a fellow offical who happens to be our assignor, evaluator and camp instructor...a great offical who handles himself well and really knows the game. I just took it and put it in a 2 page format...needed to give credit where it is due.
