Ok,
I justed passed the test and for my first game (7th graders), I toss the ball for a jump ball. A1, tabs the ball back. The ball touches the floor and no one goes for it. A1 then grabs the ball and passes to A2. Is this a violation. If so, team B gets the ball out of bounds near violation. How does one handle the possesion arrow? Does it go to team B, when you hand the ball to B1 for throw in, or when the throw end ends.. Thanks, Mike |

Had it been a violation, point the arrow toward A's basket when the ball is at the disposal of B for the throw-in. 4-3-3 |

I agree with Bob. It sad but many officials don't know this. I've had partners call this more than once. In one case, it was an occassional state playoff official. Another perinnial tourney official insisted he was right...using his credentials instead of the rulebook to back it up.
![]() That's a sure way to make sure I'll never vote for him at tourney time or for anything else. I can't stand it when people use the "I should now, look what games I do line".

Obviously, as you stated, an official can make it to a State tournament with less than perfect rules knowledge. IMO rules knowledge is very, very important...some might ask though if it is paramount? What are some traits that make an excellent official...a State championship official? Examples: * Coordination * Smooth, Fluid movements * Ability to Communicate * Looks, i.e. Athletic, Not overweight * Knowledge of the game * Experience * Ability to get along with people * Even tempered * Willingness to be better * Decent IQ * Big Ego ![]() OK...add some of your own...rate them in an order of importance if you wish. Remember, I'm not saying any one of these traits standing alone will make a good official...but when you add them all up...IMO, it doesn't hurt. [Edited by RookieDude on Nov 24th, 2004 at 10:35 AM]
