A hypothetical play inspired by Why or why not.

Here's a play that occurred to me the other night. A1 is dribbling and moving towards his basket as B1 and B2 trail on either side of him. A1 plants and comes to a sudden stop, pushing the ball to the floor and holding it there briefly as B1 & B2 fly by, keeping them from easy access to the ball.
After B1 & B2 go by, A1 then slaps at the ball to restart the dribble.

What's your call?

You answered your own guestion when you stated,"Restart the dribble." What you described was the ball coming to a stop in one or both hands.

I guess it comes to a definition of what the word "in" is. Do you mean that the last dribble was forced to come to a rest on the floor, with the hand still on the ball. I'd like to say that the ball then has come to rest in one of the dribblers hands. Therefore, any subsequent dribble is a violation.

What is the difference

What is the difference between pinning the ball against your hip and against the floor? In both cases the ball has come to rest by virture of your control. Double Dribble.

Cool

So you love hypotheticals? Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, here in Portland you can even marry one.

Seems to me the key is the word "holding". He's holding the ball, not on top of his hand, or between his hands, but so what? It's still holding. Dribble ended. Double dribble when he tries to restart.

How the heck would I know? It's only in your goofy county.

Yes it was suspended by court order. Now the whole thing gets to go through the appeals process...unless of course our illustrious state legislature steps in - don't hold your breath!

Now we get word that former mayor/governor, etc. Goldschmidt was dipping his wick in a 14 year old when he was mayor back in the late 70's. Interesting spin the newsies put on it - referring to it as an affair. According to Oregon law, it's called rape.

As per numerous letters to the editor Saturday morning. But I think his confession and repentence seem more sincere than a lot of folks we've seen. And all the more as he's retiring, not trying to get people off his back.

Mark -- it wasn't ONLY our county. At least one other in Oregon, and I think there might have also been a city? And the county wasn't Lane, but Benton. Not the first place I think of when I contemplate "liberal." Very interesting.

First of all, don't say "our" county. I live in the next county over - you know, the one with Nike and Intel, not the one with Joe's Corner Porn Palace (too bad for me, though).

Second - I always have a knee-jerk reaction to anything that happens over there in the "Peoples Republic of Portland". Sometimes you guys make Eugene look like Orange County.

I didn't mean "mine and yours". I was using the royal, "We".
