In this state you have regionals, sectionals, super sectionals and state.
It is a big deal, because officiating is like anything else in life, people want to excel at it. Excelling is going as far as you can. Because when you do those regular season games, the better games usually go to officials that have "big game" or "playoff experience." So the better. If you want the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state, it usually goes to the guys that have proven they can work those kind of games. You really prove that in the post season. And post season games are very often better games.

What state do you live in? You sound like your process is like it is in Illinois, as it relates to the regional thru State levels. But in the State of Illinois, if you go 100 miles over round trip, you get mileage. And if you claim you had to go over 2 hours, you would make a killing. But at the Regional level, they do not send people over 2 hours to work a Regional, which is only the first level of the playoffs. Yes, some of those games are not the best games, but many times that is where upsets happen or the host school might upset a higher seed. And if you look on the Illinois website, many higher seeds got beat at the Regional level this season. As a matter of fact, the #1 ranked Class A Boy's team got upset in the Regional about a week ago.

They pay milage but only to 1 of the 3 officials. They expect you to ride together. That would be great to ride together, if all of us were from the same area, but most of the officials are coming from different parts of the state.
Again, if you are talking about Illinois (which I am not sure of right now), they cannot force you to drive together. You might not work in the same area.

I'll get excited when I get a supersectional assignment, then I will travel the distance. For right now I have done enough of the blow out varsity games during the regular season in my own area.
Well, you are not going to get a Supersectional if you do not do a Regional in past years and then a Sectional Championship in the past years. Just like you cannot do a State Final Assignment until you have done all other levels in the past and have several years of playoff experience. So if this is you idea of getting a Supersectional, you will not get one with that attitude. Now if you are talking about another state, this does not apply. But I would bet there is some kind of process to get you do a Supersectional, especially if you are turning down Regionals (first round) because the game is not good enough for you.

Happy waiting.

Peace
