BB Coach,

Great question!

If you don't have anyone interested in playing the game (players), none of the rest happens (fans, coaches, officials). It always comes back to the players, don't you think?

I think a case could be made for each of these catagories: players, fans, coaches, officials.

Players: See above.
Fans: If people aren't interested in watching, eventually others probably lose interest as well.
Coaches: Without organization and the latest techniques, plays, encouragement, discipline, etc. the games probably stagnates.
Officials: With all the great athleticism, and great coaching, the element of balance provided by officials allows the game to be more than street ball. How many great crowds of fans and coaches on the sidelines have you seen on the blacktop?

So, if I have to rate them, maybe I go: 1)players, 2)officials, 3)Coaches, then 4) fans.

It's nice though that they all seem to work in concert to provide the title of the 'greatest sport'!
