Just wondering what you feel is the most important element of a basketball game? Would it be the fans, the future generation of leaders that are playing the game, the coaches that work 14hr days teaching or coaching, the officials? Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks

Players.

We (coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, fans) are all there for them.

BB Coach,

Great question!

If you don't have anyone interested in playing the game (players), none of the rest happens (fans, coaches, officials). It always comes back to the players, don't you think?

I think a case could be made for each of these catagories: players, fans, coaches, officials.

Players: See above.
Fans: If people aren't interested in watching, eventually others probably lose interest as well.
Coaches: Without organization and the latest techniques, plays, encouragement, discipline, etc. the games probably stagnates.
Officials: With all the great athleticism, and great coaching, the element of balance provided by officials allows the game to be more than street ball. How many great crowds of fans and coaches on the sidelines have you seen on the blacktop?

So, if I have to rate them, maybe I go: 1)players, 2)officials, 3)Coaches, then 4) fans.

It's nice though that they all seem to work in concert to provide the title of the 'greatest sport'!

Most important/basic - obviously the student-athletes.

As a very close second, I would have to say the fans. Sports have an amazing way of bringing together communities, particularly scholastic sports. You can have a game without coaches, you can have a (sloppy) game without refs, but I've seen very few games where there are no fans.

Send a message via AIM to Dan_ref

The most important element is that it doesn't take 5 months and 6 phone calls for the check to arrive.
