*****A1 ends up flat on the floor and is lying on his stomach after scrambling for the ball. A2 had recovered the ball and tripped on A1 and fell backwards and ended up essentially sitting on A1's back. Everybody's screaming for a walk but there isn't one because only his feet are touching the floor. After about a second and a half A2's rear slides off A1's back and it hits the floor. NOW I have a walk. I didn't exlain why I waited to anybody but don't know if they would have bought it or not.

Rule 4.-43-5(a)- "A player holding the ball may not touch the floor with a knee or any other part of the body other than hand or foot".

That is a more equitable rule in this instance than :
  • 10-7 : Commit an unsporting act ... such as (e) Climbing on or lifting a teammate to secure greater height.

Downed player, in possession of the ball - I understand does not walk unless:

    1) they try to get up (cannot)

    2) roll over

    Isn't that correct?

It's correct if the player gained possession while on the grond. But in the original example, the player already had possession and the fell to the ground, causing a violation. See JR's rule citation.

OK, I misread it. makes sense now. Guess he should have stayed on the guys back until he passed or started a dribble.

How about the fumble rule? If he fumbles the ball, then he doesnt have control of it.

    rob.wilson,
The post makes it sound like A1 didn't lose control. He just lost his seat.
