From personal experience, it always pays to take care of this before the game starts! Two years ago, I actually did run over a cheerleader during a game and with today's "I'll sue anybody for anything" mentality, suffered at the hand's of an angry mother who filed an assault charge. Now, whenever the game is ready to start, I will not toss the ball up unless the cheerleaders are at least 6 feet off of the endline. Lessons learned the hard way are easily remembered!

Whoa.

Did you need to get a lawyer or did the mom come to her senses on her own?

Fortunately, one of my partners is a state trooper at the police post where the charge was filed and he took care of it. Seems the woman had already had some similar situations in her background and it never got to a prosecuting attorney. The lesson learned is that you can never imagine what some people can and will resort to if they feel you have somehow wronged them. I didn't have to get an attorney but I did have to answer questions to the police and lost a couple of nights sleep.
