I think this would have to be a Dead Ball Technical that is deemed not an F2. I hope it was just semantics when they said an F1. The result is basically the same, but it matters if that is only his first technical. I agree with the result, but maybe not how they got to the result.

Peace

Also which player is allowed to shoot the FTs.

The fouled player shot the FTs. So, it is debatable if he was the best shooter or not.

NCAA may not care, but I don’t believe that we can allow that conduct at the NFHS level.

The issue is not what level this is. The issue is, can someone even see this? If you notice, there are 2 officials at the table. A timeout was called after this dunk. One official is away from the benches as well. I doubt they see this. Does not seem like an issue of whether they care; can anyone see this period?

I think a case can be made either way. Looks like some of the contact is taking place before he touches the basketball. I think the benefit of the doubt seems to go to the shooter. Now, there seemed to be a discussion as the player was signaling as it was in question. Not really sure.

St. John’s gets a steal and a breakaway. The NI defender grabs the back of the St. John’s player’s jersey as he is nearing the basket. Only the C can see this and he correctly calls it. The camera angles from the end line are excellent for showing how the Lead has no view of this. The final replay just before the game resumes shows the shirt grab.
There is discussion about counting the goal or not as the St. John’s player made his attempt following the whistle. I m also interested in whether this should have been n F1. In HS I would have called an intentional personal foul.

They unblocked this video

I think this is a great play for discussion. I am OK with the shooting foul and nothing more. I do not think he stops anything this player is trying to do, so I am good with just calling the jersey grab. He does not take away a clear advantage, and the player makes an easy dunk and is not put in any danger.

Peace

One of the most interesting backcourt calls you will ever see just happened in Kansas v St. John’s with 1:30 remaining in the first half.

8:38 left in the first half of Tenn v VA
The much debated travel happens in which the potential jumpshooter starts a dribble after being airborne. The official chooses to call the violation before he touches the ball again as there is no other player nearby.

Can the official read minds?

Could be the start of a very legal, but very ugly, very bad bounce pass.

Correct/Incorrect call? If it were a ball being saved from going OOB, and the same call made, obviously would have been incorrect.

This is not a violation, or was clarified as not a violation anymore. The player must touch the ball first.
