Our local interpreter has stated that in middle school games we are to ignore uniform (but not equipment) issues (home team not wearing white, teammates wearing different color shorts, illegal numbers, and duplicate numbers).

I had all four of these "exceptions" in my middle school games this past season, finally having duplicate numbers to fill out my Bingo card.

I have no idea what's done at the middle school level. I just know what I do during varsity games.

Are the people managing the NCAAW tournament incompetent or just apathetic?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...s/73161753007/

“Sunday's women's Elite Eight NCAA Tournament game in Portland, Oregon, took a curious twist before tip-off when officials discovered the 3-point lines weren't the same distance on both sides of the court.

Under NCAA rules adopted in the 2021-22 season, the women's 3-point line was set at 22 feet,1¾ inches. However, the spaces from the top of the key to the 3-point line at the Moda Center appeared to be different. When the NCAA was asked to measure about a half hour before top-seeded Texas and No. 3 seed N.C. State were to tip off, they discovered that was indeed the case.“

Four games played on the court already.
That’s eight head coaches, twelve officials, and more than fifty players who didn’t notice!

“The same court has been used in Portland for four Sweet 16 games Friday and Saturday and the Elite Eight game on Sunday. The game between NC State and Texas was the fifth game of the six scheduled for the regional site, and staffers were seen taking measurements as the two teams warmed up.“

“It’s almost unfathomable how the mistake took four games to be noticed if Sunday afternoon was truly the first time the disparity became known. Once the court was measured, it was obvious to anyone watching that the distances at the top of the arc were different. Look at how much closer it is on the left half of the court than it is on the right.“

This was actually discovered by a fan! Sounds like he had a view similar to that photo.

Fixed It ...

The 3-point line and its measurement discrepancy is adjusted ahead of the Elite 8 round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament between the UConn Huskies and the USC Trojans in Portland.

Our state does not run any middle school games (at least not with the High School Association). There is an Elementary School Association that covers most of the state, but they modify rules all the time to fit what is common. Most of us do not work those games with the same philosophy as what the IHSA does.

Peace
