New case play

7.5.2 SITUATION: Team A has team possession of the ball in its frontcourt when (a) .....; (b) B2 commits a common foul against A2 in the frontcourt inside the three-point line opposite the team bench; (c) B2 causes the ball to go out of bounds. RULING: In (a),.... In (b), Team A is awarded a throw-in at the designated spot 3 feet outside the lane line opposite the team bench on the end line.

In B, it is possible that the throw in could be sideline, 28ft mark. Maybe just a mistake on the editorial side?

Looks to be a mistake. The rocket ship is still in effect, so anything inside the rocket ship goes to the 3ft spots on the endline, anything outside it goes to the sideline.

Rocket Ship Diagram © 2009, Back In The Saddle ...

"In the frontcourt inside the three-point line" could be inside or outside the Rocket Ship Diagram.

We need more information to answer correctly.

"Opposite the team bench" isn't much of a clue regarding endlne or sideline, it just gives us clue regarding which side of the basketline.

Sounds like they left out some details while giving specific wording.

Not the first time they have done this, I would suspect they would change the wording to fit the correct ruling.

Peace

I kinda wonder if the rocket ship was not meant to continue and anything inside the 3pt line went to the end line. Which would make sense and be simpler, which of course means the NFHS wouldn't do it.

There are parts of Rocket Ship Diagram that don't always point to the closest spot, like portions of the Rocket Ship Diagram semicircle where the actual closest spot is the sideline, not the endline.

When the new rule first came out I wondered it the NFHS would replace the Rocket Ship Diagram with a simple triangle, the base being the endline with the other two sides coming from the corners at forty-five degree angles to meet at the basket line.

I do not know why they would get rid of it. The other levels use it (other than the NBA).

Peace

For simplification and that's his a lot of people treat anything inside the 3pt line anyways. Much was asked to remember if the foul/violation occurs inside the arc or that imaginary area between the top of the key and the corners of the court.
