NCAA jersey legality question
Are the jerseys that Texas A&M-CC wore in the opening first four game legal?
For anyone with the ability to post a picture, there is a good look at the shirt at 17:23 of the second half when the camera gives a close up of #13. Note: The shirts would definitely be illegal under NFHS rules. Last edited by Nevadaref; Wed Mar 16, 2022 at 03:19am. |

Rule 1-22
Art. 5. The neutral zone(s) of the game jersey shall be of the same single color. A tonal design effect is permitted within the neutral zone(s) provided the tonal shifts are not more than 15% from the color of the neutral zone. Words including institutional names, mascots, nicknames, logos, marks and names intended to celebrate or memorialize persons, events, or other worthy causes are permitted. Commercial names, logos, marks and slogans are not permitted. Art. 6. The neutral zone of the game jersey shall meet the following requirements: a. The front neutral zone shall be measured from the shoulder panel and extend to the bottom of the game jersey. It shall be a minimum 12 inches wide measured 6 inches in each direction from the center of the neckline. Art. 7. Only the following are permitted in the front and back neutral zones: a. A player or institutional name/mascot/logo. --1. Not more than two identifying names or abbreviations may be placed on the front or back of the game jersey. The name(s) shall: ---a. Identify the school, the school nickname or mascot, or the player’s name. ---b. Be placed horizontally, arched, or set at an angle. When placed horizontally, all letters are on the same plane. When arched, the first and last letters of the name must be on the same horizontal plane. When set at an angle, the first and last letters need not be on the same plane. For all placements, no part of the lettering shall be below a plane extending through the top of the number(s) and no part of the lettering below the number(s) shall be above a plane extending through the bottom of the number(s). ---c. Be placed not closer than 1 inch from the uniform number. ---d. A logo that replaces an institutional name, nickname or mascot may only be used in the front neutral zone. This does not preclude the use of an institutional logo as in Rule 1-22.7.c. --2. No commercial advertising is permitted anywhere on the uniform. b. A player number with Arabic numerals. --1. Each team member’s game jersey shall be numbered on the front and back. The number shall be located in the neutral zone(s).

I wonder if they wore those all year long and have a waiver.
I think I've read that the NCAA and or head official (whatever the title is) are available during all the games -- warrants a call, if it wasn't discussed with the crew beforehand |

Since the jersey seems to be black, I think the undershirt is fine. The other stuff is the issue.
Peace

Rule 1-22.7: (Interesting that Raymond cut it off before getting to this part.)
6. The number shall be one single solid color that is clearly in distinctIn my opinion, neither the front nor the back numbers are "clearly in distinct contrast with the neutral zone, strikingly different in color and shade." (The numbers are dark blue. It's not nearly as bad in person as it seems on TV, but still hard to make out on anyone who isn't standing still.) Also, Rule 10-2.3: (For clarity, 10-2 is Administrative Technical Fouls.) A team or team member shall not wear:c. An illegal game uniform. This only includes the failure of a team to wear |

Yesterday's Women's game: UMiami vs. South Florida.
I watched yesterday's UMiami vs. South Florida game for multiple reasons: My sister played golf for UM in the mid-1970s and I dated a UM starting PG during that time.
I wish I had taken a picture of UM's jerseys (but it would have not done any good because I do not have BillyMac's skill in posting pictures here) was wearing white. Immediately below the neck opening was a fairly large Adidas logo, below that was a fairly large Sebastian the Ibis logo (UM's mascot), and finally below Sebastian was the player's number. I have an email into my friend on the NCAA Women's Rules Committee for clarification. MTD, Sr.
