Tying Shoe Leads To Heave Ho...

I'm 100% certain that Anthony Davis said something awful enough to deserve a technical foul (his second technical foul leading to his ejection), but wouldn't it behoove the official, Scott Wall, to wait a few seconds for Davis to tie his shoe instead of giving the Bulls a five on four unfair "power play" advantage?

Of course, we don't know if Davis made a request for a few extra seconds, but should he have to make such a request after he was on the floor right next to the official?

Maybe the official believed that Davis was ready after Davis stood up (to tie his shoe)?

Even so, Davis was still out of bounds when the ball was put into play.

It always bothered me that the NFHS allows a time out exception for displaced eyeglasses or lens, but not for untied, or missing shoes.

NFHS 5-11-A: Exception: No time-out is charged: If (request being granted only when ball is at the disposal or in control of a player of his team) the player’s request results from displaced eyeglasses or lens.

Most high school officials will not stop a live ball, clock running, advancing the ball to score, for displaced eyeglasses or lens, or an untied or missing shoe (with exceptions for safety issues in both situations); nor will they not wait a few extra seconds during a dead ball clock stopped situation to allow a player to tie his shoe.

In most situations high school officials will allow the eyeglasses, or shoes, to be "adjusted", quite often with no request coming from players or coaches, usually waiting for an appropriate time, which, in some cases, may be immediately due to a safety concern.

For The Good Of The Cause ...

I kind of already knew this, but just for everybody else's information, regarding thread-starter posts (and only thread starter posts), said poster can no longer go back and make any change in the title of a new thread (that shows up on the Basketball Forum home page), nor can said poster go back and delete the entire thread-starter post. Said poster only can go back and make changes in the "body" of the thread-starter post.

So when starting a thread, be careful before one clicks on "Submit New Thread".

Similar problem for any form of electronic communication (email, text, Twitter, etc.).

In ancient times we had to address an envelope, find a stamp, and get to a mailbox, plenty of time to reconsider and change our mind about something.

It's way too easy to simply click.

Full Disclosure ...

I have never been a Laker's fan, nor has anyone in my immediate family ever been a Laker's fan, nor do I, or anyone in my immediate family, work for an advertising or marketing company for the Lakers, not have I, or anyone in my immediate family, ever played a Laker's fan on television.

All I would say, it was probably the words he said got him ejected. I do not know the conflict that was started before that. Maybe, just maybe he was told he was ready and then they were ready to go. Seems like a misunderstanding that did not need to happen, but do not see the entire floor. I would not stop the game for just a shoe coming off, but would delay starting the game when a player is not ready. Why create that problem? But again, something is missing here and maybe what AD said was just not tolerable.

Peace

Even without knowing what was said, I'm sure that we can probably all agree upon that. Davis certainly wasn't ejected for simply tying his shoe (as some online sensational eye-catching headlines seem to imply).

Agree, except in the case where a loose shoe on the floor of a high school game may present a safety concern for the players, not necessarily just for the player with one shoe.

Just curious as to why the NFHS specifically broaches eyeglasses and lenses, but doesn't specifically broach untied (or missing) shoes.

Of course, shoes won't break if a player steps on them.

Untied shoes happen all the time in my middle school games.

If we've already had a couple, and we're waiting for a shoe (once again) to be tied before a free throw, I will often tell everybody, "If anybody wants shoe tying lessons after the game, my partner, as a child, came in second place in the Connecticut State Shoe Tying Contest, and he'll be glad to hang around to give lessons".

Sometimes I'll follow up with my partner, "Was that second place, or third place?".

Saying second place makes it seem more believable than first place, and I often get middle school players saying, "Really?".

Lying to kids for a good reason isn't always bad? Right? Santa Claus?

As a five year old child, had an adult next door neighbor take us to a beach "known to have pirate treasure". All the neighbor kids found "Silver" coins along the water's edge on the sand. Of course, we didn't know the difference between "planted" quarters and real pirate silver coins.

Note: Stony Creek, where we visited the beach, and the Thimble Islands, on Long Island Sound in Connecticut, were actually visited by Captain William Kidd’s ship, the Adventure Galley, in the 1690s, so he wasn't really lying.

Same neighbor took neighborhood kids for a long walk in the woods to visit a "Haunted House", and we spotted "Bear Poop" on the trail. How were we supposed to know that it was a horse trail, the house was just an ordinary dilapidated abandoned house, and that back then there were few, if any, bears in that part of suburban Connecticut (if any bears at all in the entire state back then)?

That only edits the title of the actual post, not on the title that appears on the home page's list of threads.

Odd. On a different board (running vB 4.2x), editing the title of the first post changes the thread title. I've never tried it here.

The original title of my first post in my thread starter was "Tying A Shoe ...".

Changed it in the first post to "Tying Shoe Leads To Heave Ho ...".

Note that the thread title wasn't changed on the Basketball Forum home page, it remained "Tying A Shoe ...".

When clicked on from the home page, the post title reads, "Tying Shoe Leads To Heave Ho ..."

Odd?
