Coach is screaming "IT'S 7 TO 1!!!" across the court...different story, but even I'd be inclined to try and get him back to coaching before giving a warning, especially if that's his first issue of the night.
I wouldn't say that it is an absolute, I guess I should have said could warrant. However, this does give you easy justification to any assignor.

Why did you T him?
He was complaining about the lopsided foul count.
Ok thanks

Not that you need any justification but I feel like it gives some consistency.

Assigners I know don't care if the coach calls you a motherf*cker if the one he's saying it to is the only other person in the gym who can hear it.

My assigners might not care, but I surely would.

Is this your assignor?

Had a “ball don’t lie” tonight from the bench.
Coach was nearby and I said: ball don’t talk. Coach told the kid to be quiet and apologized to me.
I like “and none”. Also like slowly saying: And One (pause) more of those may get you a technical foul (walking away).

Back to the OP ...

Worse than hearing players do it is coaches. Usually it's a case of younger, underlevel guys (and, yes, it's virtually always guys) just getting caught up in the game. Almost as if it's a synonym for "Great move in traffic!"

Much lower tolerance for this, however. A not-so-private word usually does the trick with any and-1'er.

I was doing an 18U Rec league last night and the kids were actually using the expression as they practiced and shot around before the game. Practice?! Drove me insane.

Thankfully, it never really came up in the game.

I about whacked a kid last night who kept yelling it from the bench. I've noticed it in the past, but it's never really bothered me. Now, every time I hear it, I want to tell them that their parents don't love them. I think I'm in need of a break from high school kids for a while or something.

You are not getting cranky. On the other hand I AM old and cranky. That said, today's players, not all player, but a small but significant just don't know how to keep their mouths shut and play the game. When I played in the 1960s my HC would have benched just for looking at an official cross-eyed. Different times and generations.

I always laugh when kids say "and one!" and miss the shot. I usually look around and pretend I'm just really old and don't understand and say "I'm confused, don't you have to make the shot for it to be an 'and one!'"?
