Question

During a free throw, if an offensive player occupies the 1st lane space and the defensive player occopies the 2nd space is this a simultanoeos violation? This is on the new rules test and I'm not sure how NFHS rules on this. Thanks..

You'll find the answer in the Points of Emphasis.

I ruled this true. Because these both would be a lane line violations committed by both teams. So by all accounts, this would be a simultaneous violation.

Peace

I don't have this year's book yet, so I can't check the POEs, but the rule citation would be 9-1-2.

Here is the info from the NFHS website under POE
Double Violation: If the offense is erroneously permitted to occupy the first two lane spaces and the defense is erroneously permitted to occupy the second two lane spaces, a double violation shall be called (9-1-2 Pen 3).

9-1-2, pen 3 says: "If there is a simultaneous violation by each team, and no further free throws are to be administered....." If this is the first of multiple free throws, then I don't think this penalty would apply.

BTW, got my books (all 3) last night at our first meeting. POEs are:

1. Sporting Behavior -- Taunting
2. Rough Play
3. Free Throw Administration
4. Time-Out Administration
5. Substituting -- Player Disqualifications
6. End-of-Game Situations/Intentional Fouls

Here is the link for the POE if you don't have your books yet(like me)
http://www.nfhs.org/Sports/basketball_emphasis.htm

for penalty on first or second (of 3) SEE Officials manual
para 263 (maybe different in new manual)
