Technical after end of regulation

At the end of regulation playing time, The game is tied so we are obviously going into overtime. As the official blows the whistle too and regulation, team a Coach kicks the basketball. He deservedly gets the technical. Team takes the technical shots. Makes one of two shots. The official says the game is over no overtime is to be played. Is this correct?

Thanks
Lou

Coach Lou:

1) Thanks for joining the Forum and please enjoy your stay here.

2) Let me clean up your situation: The clock is winding down in the fourth quarter. In order: (1) The horn sounds signaling the end of the fourth quarter. (2) The game officials sound their whistles immediately after the horn starts to sound to signify that the clock has reach zero. (3) HC of Team A kicks the ball in disgust as the officials are sounding their whistles. Is this a correct description of you play?

Once the game is tied at the end of regulation, overtime will be played.

Coach A, however, took the chance that the ref might not get the rule right when he kicked the ball. I don't feel sorry for him.

Welcome Coach....

Note that if Team "A" had been ahead by 1 or 2 points, Team "B" would shoot the "T" free throws to determine if they won (make 2) or if there would be OT. (make 1). Also, the OT would start with a jump, not a throw in.

The difference is in where the score is at when the period ends.

Perhaps the official deemed that the coach kicked the ball prior to the horn.

If so, then the T is part of the fourth quarter.

Perhaps, but based on the OP's confirmation of Mark, probably not.

For the OP, OT should have started with two FTs to Team B, then opposite division line throw-in for B, arrow to A, with the OT being played through to completion.
