Play 1. Yes. Illegal dribble. The first one wan't an elegant dribble but it was one.

Play 2. Block...continued to drift to the side after shooter was off the floor and enough that it put him in the path of the shooter that may have either missed or just barely made contact.

Play 3. Block...While he had 2 feet down, in the path, and was facing, he was a LONG way from being vertical at the time of initial contact. His upper body, not to mention his arms, was leaning a couple of feet forward of the position of his feet.

Play 4. He had LGP, legally moved to maintain it, and was run over...charge.

Agree on all 4. In 2, tough break for the L as he didn't get over in time to have a credible opinion on the secondary defender. Not blaming him; it just means there was a lot for C to officiate there without the best of angles. Tough play. In 4, looked like maybe a flop in real speed, but the defender wasn't planted when he got charged into hence the dramatic fall.

Probably block on play 3, but I'm not up in arms over a charge call. However, I think that waiting (and watching) until the ball went through the hoop before making the signal is not a good thing, it often looks as though you are factoring it into your decision.

He called a block.

I was also confused by the mechanics on the play, but what appears to be a PC punch is actually him counting the basket.

This is why I like to give the block signal first, then count the basket after giving the block signal.

#4 -- there's NO WAY that amount of contact caused that reaction. I don't use the word flop, but if it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck...

I think a no call is the proper call here. I'm guessing I will be in the minority in this thread.

I had this happen a few years ago and the coach was livid -- he thought I called a charge and was counting the basket.

Since then, I count with two fingers and not a closed fist. There's no doubt what I'm calling, no matter the order of my signals.

I'm with you on this and I hope we are not in the minority.

I think that reaction was a result not of the contact but a combination of the contact and the defender's own movement. He was going that way anyway and the contact added to it.
