BTW, NYY beat Baltimore today, Clemens was acting mgr, Wells got his 200th, Jeter didn't win batting title. There's another team in NY but the media doesn't follow them... :shrug:

Hey Damian, how is Jimy Williams perceived in Houston? I liked him here in Boston and I thought he did a pretty decent job, considering that he never received the backing of the GM. But I know that he is sometimes thought to go "against the book" at stupid times. Is anybody calling for his head down there.
BTW, going against the book worked pretty good for Dom Capers today, didn't it? ![]()

I'm happy for 'em, mick. Too bad they couldn't have won 5 out of 6 a couple times earlier in the season, instead of waiting till the last week to do it.

Btw, does MLB do these STOOPID things on purpose? Playing a playoff game with a team from the East @ 10:00pm? Great way to increase your fan base amongst the young 'uns. Great for the ratings too,to have a game that will probably end at about 2:00am in the East. Oi vey! |
|
|||
Yes, they do it on purpose, but it's probably so that the home market has its game in prime time. I would guess that they try to do that as much as possible.

Tigers avoid record
Just to update this, Tigers win their last game and avoid record. End up 43-119. Here's a little something from Jayson Stark of espn.com's year in review:
Quotes from the 2003 Tigers: "Hopefully, it's the start of the beginning" -Hiram Bocachica after the Tigers picked up win #1. "This squirrel ain't finding no acorns." -Alan Trammell after the Tigers started 1-17. "I was thinking, 'I've got to take (McDonald) out.'...Then I see Sanchez standing there. I said, 'I can't take Sanchez out.'" -Danny Klassen's thoughts on the bizarre double play against the Indians. "I don't think I've ever had a walkoff home run before. I had a walkoff ground-ball squibber." -Brandon Inge, after his 3-run walk off blast beat the Angels 10-9. "We're proud of anything we win. We won the hat off." -Shane Halter after Matt Roney beats Hideki Matsui in a hat off. |

Just remember, folks - the last time the Cubs and the BoSox were both in the postseason in the same year, the Sox beat the Cubs 4-2 in the World Series.
The year? 1918.
