Both are travels. The second is less obvious in real time in my opinion.

Travels by rule, often not called at that level.

Players pivot was lifted and returned to the floor before shot or pass: Travel!

On the first, the player lifts his pivot and puts it back down not once, but twice!

On the second play, the player travels before he even gets to the spin move.

Did a boys scrimmage tonight where these travels (more like the first play) were a hot topic between the coaches. Each of their best players makes a living on these "spin moves" and they were starting to get pretty anxious as the travels mounted, i.e. "Uh oh, we're dead this season if they're gonna start calling this."

I think it's a rarity that all members of a crew are on the same page regarding recognizing these (many of which are OBVIOUS) and then having the conviction to call them. So in the interest of consistency, it tends not to be called. Just my opinion. It gets treated like a "game interruptor" by a lot of smug and/or lazy officials.

Yes, but the NCAA is now directing officials to call it. Some/many are now doing so.

Which one? They are not the same level.

For the record, the first play is a high school game.

Peace

I have never seen a single video or directive not to call traveling at the college level. At least not in Men's basketball.

Peace

Never said their was.

But, there have been plenty of people here and pretty much everywhere over the years doing everything they can to avoid calling traveling for any number of reasons. Now the NCAA is putting an emphasis on it...and the officials seem to be able to call it correctly much more of the time without any noticeable difficulty.

And your post is a perfect illustration that:

1) it is not called consistently or proficiently at the HS level

2) coaches are the ones who have complained about it being called when it is called

Get tired of the nonsensical stance that HS officials are on top of this, while college officials are somehow inept on travels.

And that is why I posted this. I knew there would be people that would not realize that one was a high school game and the other was obviously a college game. I have been in games where this was not called at both levels.

Peace

Is there a "level" that does a better job adjudicating plays like these?
