T or no?
Before the game during warm ups s visiting member jumps up and hangs on the rim. The uncommon part of this was the rim he was hanging on was a non retractable side goal that hangs about a foot over the floor.
Is this a T? I ruled it is not a T bc he did not grasp one of the playing goals? I wouldn't T him for hanging on a pull up bar or the top of the doorway. I did go tell him to don't do that again. |

Why did they add this rule? Was it to intimate the other team and thats why its an unsportsmanlike? Is it cuz if the rim breaks there goes the game? I dont know..
Where is some old fart to help with these questions!

Pretty sure he meant out over the floor as in -------------> way not a foot in height.

I doubt it has anything to do with sportsmanship. It's for injuries and damage to the rim/backboard.

Most high schools don't have the ability to swap out a hoop and a backboard. Breaking one is a major headache. I always assumed that was part of the thinking along with player safety and perhaps not wanting dunking to be used to intimidate another team.

But it opens up a loophole and makes the prohibition easier to enforce. And, there's no real reason to need to dunk during warmups.
