Shooter fumbles shot, violation?

After debating with another official I just wanted to be clear... A shooter who has stopped his dribble loses the ball on the way up as he attempts a shot. would this be considered a fumble? and the player allowed to catch the ball without starting another dribble? or is there a violation because the pivot foot was lifted when he attempted the shot?

If you judge it to be a shot attempt, even though it may be a poor shot attempt.
It is a rebound and the shooter has all options at their disposal.

This has been debated ad nauseam on the site. Using the search function you will find pages and pages of debate. There are pretty much 2 sides to the argument and I don't want to relive it again .

Are you saying this would be a travel (OP not necessarily the video) or are you saying this is just a rebound?

Peace

4-21: A fumble is the accidental loss of player control when the ball unintentionally
drops or slips from a player’s grasp.

I think he's suggesting that it's either a fumble or a try...it can't be both. Choose one and officiate from there.

I do agree with that explanation, but that is why I asked the question.

Peace
