I'm still new, don't forget please. :-) But I've read in the NFHS that throw-in locations were a concern.

Situation from last night: I was lead (as Umpire). Ball went OOB on end line by defense. I took ball out on my sideline, I didn't hear any complaints from the Referee, but sure did from the player in-bounding the ball.

The reason I took it out on sideline was because I read/heard somewhere that for the offense to in-bound under the basket was TOO ADVANTAGEOUS to them...just pass to post and shoot basket - 2pts.

Was my reasoning correct?

No, it wasn't. If the ball goes OOB on the endline, that's where you put it in play. yes, it's advantageuos to the offense but the defense knocked the ball OOB. Who are we to take away that advantage?

Your reasoning is correct from the defensive coach's point of view, but not according to the rule book. The rule is clearly that the ball is thrown-in from the spot nearest to the infraction. If that infraction is OOB, the ball comes back inbounds where it went out. Remember defense committed an infraction here. They are receiving consequences -- which could well include a basket. Next time, perhaps they can arrange for the ball to go out on the sideline instead. Also remember that you have no discretion in this call. There's no judgment allowed. The ball comes in where the ball went out. Period.

There are a couple of times however hat common sense dictates moving the all slightly. You will never take the ball directly undeneath the basket. You dont want to get blamed if the kid throws the ball against the backboard or something like that. take it to closes FT Lane line...

If it goes out in at the intersection of baseline and endline I use the sideline up a step or so, because the administration is easier ( you could move on aseline a step or so from the corner)

If there is a small floor and the table is too close or something use common sense but has been mentioned closest to the spot is the rule

92 days of 100 plus degees before a cold streak of 94 degrees broke it for us...

One exception to what other have mentioned that may be confusing you.

If the spot where it goes out of bounds is <em>directly</em> behind the basket (between the lane lines extended), the throw-in spot should be moved not to the sideline but just outside the lane line and still on the endline.

Also, there's more to your suggestion than common sense -- it's a rule not to inbounds behind the basket. It's definitely a common sense rule, though!

Only if they're both direct T's.Could also be 3 indirect T's,or maybe 1 direct and 2 indirects to make up the 3.Could also be 1 T only,if it's flagrant.
