Video Request: BYU vs Gonzaga

1st half, 8:23 remaining. Block call against BYU

1st half, put back dunk at the buzzer. Goaltending? No call.

And as they cut to commercial just before the final commercial break before the second half, they showed a fan holding a sign that looked like a check payable to WCC refs. A screenshot of that would be nice.

There are close to 50 plays worth looking at in this game lol

Basket interference on last play of 1st half.

One I just saw....travel on BYU with about 4 min left in 2nd half.

It was very close but it definitely was not goaltending; offensive basket interference would have been the violation if called.

The ball looked like it was outside the cylinder when it was touched by the BYU player; no-call correct (IMO).

I did not look at this originally and the official did not indicate that it was an RA play. So I am not sure he is ruling it was a block for that reason. But again they cut away too.

Peace

Thanks JRut.

There was a nice slow-motion & closeup shot of the play before the start of the 2nd half. If possible, maybe you could catch that clip for a better look.

Didn't really matter....a block either way.

As for the BI, it was close but a small part of the ball was still in the cylinder. Under both NCAA and NFHS rules, it must completely clear the cylinder to be touched. I believe the NBA allows it to be touched sooner.

I am not so sure I agree with this, but it was very close. I can live with the call in live speed.

Peace

He was moving into the shooter the entire time...never stopped.

He does not have to stop, but his feet were planted. The issue is was he there before the shooter went airborne.

Peace

He can't be moving towards the opponent at the time of contact...and he was. His torso was still moving into the path and into the shooter. Getting the feet on the floor doesn't give you the right to the space until the torso is over the feet. That is a fundamental element of verticality.

Play 1: The defender arrived to his spot in time. The issue for NCAAM is that his right heel is barely on/above the RA. In an NFHS game this is a PC. In this specific contest, block was the correct call, but not for the reason Verne made it.

Play 2: That ball is 95% out of the cylinder. In real time, I believe that the officials have to err on the side of this being a good basket and not BI. To penalize the guy for this seems picky to me.

Well I do not know how he is moving forward when his feet seem to be planted at the time of contact. The issue again is if the defender was there on a airborne shooter. That part was very close and I see a way this could have been easily called PC foul under all other circumstances but the RA situation.

Peace
