I can't believe that a glass of wine or a beer (or 2) at dinner would be enough to allow a player to smell alcohol on his breath. I would have to assume that there was more consumed than anyone here is assuming.....
I'd definitely tell the official that a player brought it to my attention. I'd see what he has to say, and play it by ear whether or not the conversation goes any further.
