So why is it when you're thinking of whacking a coach, you assume it's a HE, and when you're thinking about a "professional and not overly argumentative" coach, you assume it's a SHE?

It's simply a literary mechanism, an alternative form of stating "he/she" in each instance.

And I suspect that the state office takes these about as seriously as they take the coach's ratings of officials.

I don't care if the HC is a He or a She, I just whack 'em. And in my "family's" business it is never personal just business, .

I just decided to alternate pronouns.

Get over yourself.

Or, if it helps:
If I had to whack a coach, she's going to get a lower rating... if he's professional and not overly argumentative, he'll get a higher rating.

I see. So you're gonna whack the woman coach and not the man? Sexist refs are a real problem.

(Wait, what do I need to do to make sure no one thinks I'm being serious?)

Color it blue to indicate sarcasm.

Michigan doesn't have coaches ratings, but officials do have the option to rate high school level teams on the following:

  • Sportsmanship of student athletes
  • Sportsmanship of coaching staff
  • Host school environment and management
Options for each are:
  • Greatly exceeded expectation
  • Exceeded expectation
  • Met expectation
  • Below expectation
  • Well below expectation

Had a game tonight that the host school asked us to fill out a survey very similar to this. They included athlete behavior, coach behavior, and fan behavior. AD told us that they pay attention to them if there are any issues. Which there were not. But I like that the school cares enough to try to "enforce" (prob not the right word) sportsmanship. Or at least that they are trying to make it a priority for everyone
