As per an article by J.Bible I read a while ago, I believe it went something like this. "As officials we are expected to be PERFECT on our first assignment, and get better from then on".
I agree with Garth that it is unfair to put these guys in the spotlight however, they are for the most part, commensurate with the level of ball being played. LITTLE LEAGUE. Just because it is televised, doen't change what it is. I know the the viewers, including forum members, expect perfection out of these gentlemen, but its not gonna happen. It is not broke, we don't have to fix it. Leave it alone. What's next? Professional LL Baseball Lets keep this in perspective. Those officials are the Best Officials working those games because, they, are there. And thats good enough. Even though the Commentator and Perfectionist does'nt agree. |

I think it goes with the territory
I'll agree it is LL, but you have to agree that LL has made this what it is.
They have gotten the contracts with ESPN, they have put forth the tremendous effort to have now even the regional games televised.; So IMO they owe it to themselves to police their umpires as well as they do their coaches and players. Where have been the coaches screaming and hollering about these obvious mistakes???? If I were calling the WS games, I would want the scrutiny for myself. I would expect to make a mistake, but I would also know that I would know how to properly handle myself to make the situation correct. IMO these umpires don't seem to have what it takes (what I call experience) to fix the problems. CI - simply ask for help thats easy. OB call at second - get together with your partners and make the call together. I've been there and got the cap and shirt so I know how much pressure they have. But I know that I learned through the years of doing these types of games how to handle any situation that might arise. So LL owes it to the players in the game to make sure they have umpiring that will go along with the hoopla they have created for the games themselves. Now off my soapbox and I'm done. Thanks David |
