Stop speaking Spanish?
Someone posted this story somewhere else and I was wondering if others had seen this story. Sounds like some interesting conversation can come from this one. Peace

Both posts are a good example of what not to do or say as an official. |

But like I say, I wonder if there are other parts to this story. Peace

In 1993 I officiated the Polish National Men's Basketball Team at Cleveland State University. My partner was another U.S. official and a FIBA official from Poland who was traveling with the team. First, he was a civil/transportation engineer which game was nice for me since I am a civil/structural engineer. Second, he spoke English better than my partner and me, . Third, he told us that none of the players spoke English but each and everyone knew how to use the F-word in every possible way, .

Once I was officiating a hockey tournament that had two Russian teams participating at the 15-16 year level (Midget Level), and NO, I don't know why the older kids are called "midgets". Anyway, in reviewing the scoresheet before the game I noticed that almost every players last name ended with "off" which is common in Russia , I was told. During the game I had to assess a penalty to a player and who seemed quite irritated about the call, as I was skating back to the benchto report the penalty I turned around and saw #9 "shoot the finger my way", he didn't expect me to turn at that point. I went to the scoring table and announced a two min minor and 10 min miconduct to # 9, "Filpmeoff". The scorekeeper was amused.
