What if scenarios?

their language "fair or foul calls" is pretty vauge: what about foul tips not legally caught? or ball off the batter's foot? or batted fly ball hit's fielder's glove over fair/foul territory?

Just thought of one that probably should be considered for replay that they didn't mention - batter hit by pitch ie. the one's that barely graze the jersey or the one that hit his hand, knob of the bat or both?

UMPIRES HAVE TO GIVE THEIR APPROVAL?????? WTF who do they work for? Last I looked it was MLB. It's bad enough its almost impossible to get rid of those that suck but now MLB has to ask for their permission to modify replay. That has nothing to do with work rules, conditions etc. IMHO I think it's ridiculous.

Same people the players work for ... and their union has to approve these as well. You don't think changing replay changes their work rules? Your ire is silly.

I know the player's union must give approval, but the umpire's union as well.

I'd have to see that in writing to believe that.

You think that MLB and the umpires are going to give you a copy of the contract?

Why would MLB lie about it?

It doesn't have to be in the contract. It can be a side bargaining agreement.

What your duties are on the job are work rules. Using a replay device is a duty.

I suppose, but I think only the MLB has to get approval, for rules changes like instant replay, from its officials/referee's union. It really makes no sense to me.

I am sure it is in their collective bargaining contract to have rules approval or procedure to be approved. Then again it is not like MLB changes many rules.

Peace

"MLB wants to expand replay to include fair-or-foul calls, "whether a fly ball or line drive was trapped" and fan interference all around the ballpark."

I'm pretty certain that this is the language of the ESPN writer, not MLB. The final language will undoubtedly be very clear about what is and isn't permissible.

Until the infra-red technology we saw this post season, I would have argued that video replay rarely resolves these issues. But, if what it really works as good as it appeared to, and it can be applied to every ballpark, it might make sense to use it for these marginal contact calls.
