I was wondering what those of you with the plus pos super lightweight masks thought of them. Ive been needing a lighter mask but just wanted to get some reviews first. Thanks

Sorry, but like i said in the general forum talk to some veterans in your area they should be able to help you a great deal. Good luck in your search. I use the POS+ SUL for both baseball and softball. I would recommend it heartily. One of its best features is that it simply won't "jolt" you, even with a dead-on fastball. The mask must "give" a little with the blow or something. And it certainly is very light.

POS+ often sells the SUL for 20% off ($88) over the winter, but I'm not sure that deal is being offered this year.

Thumbs up

I've been using the SUL mask for about a year. As far as comfort goes, it tops. It's sooooo light. Visibility is a little less than a traditional mask, but not bad. Replacement pads are a little pricey at $50 a set though.

I tried a mask at a trade show last November and was blown away. Schutt Sports makes it, the Comfort Lite. Steel frame, and they claim it's lighter than the SUL. Very, very nice. I haven't seen it on the market yet. If anyone has, let us know.

Exclamation Questionable Construction

I don't know if I would want to use the +POS sul 2000 mask. The mask is banned from use in the minor leagues because a few years ago two umpires were seriously injured in the same season when the mask shattered on impact from a foul ball. I don't know if +POS fixed any potential causes for the mask to shatter but is still not allowed by NAPBL leagues.

Very interesting about the shattering of the SUL. It's made of some kind of resin, so maybe under certain conditions that could happen. Maybe cold weather or something.

Gee, I wonder whether any lawyers might have been interested in the umps who suffered serious injuries from the defect in the mask.

It's hard to tell on TV, but some MLB umps use a mask that looks like the SUL. Wonder if it is.
