The RUNNING LANE violation has to do with a play being made at first. 3-feet has to do with any tag attempt, anywhere on the field.

yes, and umpjim said he was gonna call the guy out for the 3' lane when the batter was just leaving the dirt circle... that rule 6.05k does not apply at that time..

No, he didn't. He said he would call him out for runing out of his baseline by 3' once the catcher started toward him to make a tag. Not 6.05(k) but 7.08(a).

If I'm worried about anything it's your reading skills. Where does Jim say "lane"??? He's talking about avoiding a tag. Not the Running Lane (which is not even in existence within 1 step of the plate --- which is where jim was referring to).
