both teams lose track of outs

Hey guys
Had a situation late this summer. Not sure I handled it correctly, never had this happen before. HS BB game late in game. During a long 7 or 8 run inning with a couple pitching changes. Bases loaded no outs batter hits into 6-4-3 dp. BOTH teams believe it is 3 outs, both teams vacate the field, I look at the HPU gesture "I've only got 2" and he agrees. Score keepers realize that there are only 2 outs. Now here come the managers...... Defense wants R2 out for vacating, Offense says R2 rounded 3rd and scored and wants the run. So we put R2 on 3rd and put the defense back on field. Do you guys agree or is there a rule that would govern such a situation? I have had one or the other forget outs but never everyone on both teams

Both teams guilty

The situation immediately after the double play is likely:

R3 has crossed and hopefully touched home.

R2 is in third.

There are 2 outs.

When both teams leave the field, R2 (now on third) probably vacates his base and enters the dugout to get his glove to go on defense. Third out - one run (R3) scores. End of inning.

Well - did he?

I agree with Rich, here. You were the or one of the umpires, so were you paying attention to the runners? What did you see?

Kind of seems like you'd have abandonment or a run plus abandonment. What did you see?

I would have outs that carry over to the next inning. With these two teams, you just might get away with it.

miami skunk in the IF

I don't see abandonment by R2 unless he ventures into DBT or touches his glove and head towards his defensive position. I see the defense leave the field. I would score R3 and allow R2 to return to base. I'm not bailing out the defense w/ abandonment when practically their whole team left the field. I agree with your decision.
