So, start with no outs so we can have a run scored SOONER. Bases loaded is stupid, also (in softball, it is runner on second no outs) why make it EASIER to get a guy out at home? I am not a big fan of tiebreakers, either...but if you are going to do them, they should at least accomplish the goal.

Well, that's what it's called here, and in other states as well. It's an actual designation. I most certainly didn't make it up.

Here is from both the California Games and Triple Crown Baseball rules:

Tie-Breaker System: If a game is tied after all innings have been completed (or at a time limit), the "California" tie-breaker rule will go into effect. Each team puts the batter who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half of the inning on second base and plays out a full inning. This happens until the tie is broken and the game is complete.

This is from the Sam Bass (Round Rock, Texas) Tournament Rules:

GAMES THAT END IN A TIE

If a game ends in a tie after the completion of all regulation innings, and the time limit has not expired, one more inning may be played. Otherwise, California tiebreaker goes into effect till game is won. (Exception is pool play, a tie stands after time expires)

California Tie Breaker Rule

a. The last batter from the previous inning will take second base (visiting team), and there will be NO outs charged against the batting team.

b. The batting (visiting) team will bring the next batter in their lineup, and then subsequent batters in the lineup (if needed) in an attempt to score. This half of the inning continues until the third out is made.

c. The home team will play their half of the inning in the same manner.

d. The game proceeds in this manner FOR ONE INNING.

e. The 2nd inning, The last batter from the previous inning will take second base (visiting team), and there will be ONE out charged against the batting team.

f. The 3RD inning, The last batter from the previous inning will take second
base (visiting team), and there will be TWO outs charged against the
batting team. The game proceeds in this manner UNTIL A WINNER IS
DETERMINED.

This is from the Lafayette (Indiana) Lightning Tournament Rules:

No game will end in a tie. California Tie Breaker rules apply if after 6 innings the score is tied. A new inning will be started and, the last batted out for the visitors will be placed at 2nd base. The next batter in the order will begin with a 1-1 count and 1 out. After 3 outs the Home team will follow the same procedure until a winner is determined.

Steve, he's laughing because this has been around softball for a long time (longer than baseball I would venture) and is commonly known as the International Tie Breaker.

Although it's hard for some inhabitants to believe, California isn't really the leader in everything. (Except maybe bankrupt governments and idiot voters):D

With regards to the California tie-breaker.....we have a D1 school here that plays a Fall intrasquad Series. If any game is tied at the end of 9 innings, every batter after that starts with a full count until the game is decided. Goes pretty quickly....
