I guess you need two plate coats in Manitoba.

Here, you occasionally need a long-sleeve shirt.

Your correct Kevin ! May and June is still fairly cold. I also wear a black ear band to keep the ears from freezing. Coaches actually think we can't here them with it on.

Kevin, I'll bet Hammerin Hank doesn't see the GLM's we see down here in SoCal. Can't imagine a game without a tank top wearing mom or GF or two in the stands.

You probably have it better in Laguna and Newport than even here in the west valley, or west L.A., but when it gets, ahem, hot, ahem, it's pretty darned ... uh, nice here, too.

Let's just say that when it really bakes, you're wearing the dark lenses for more than just the intense glare.

Take a look on ebay under "umpire", currently there are some plate coats in your size range listed for a very reasonable starting bid.

Salvation army store. Probably pick something up that will work temporarily for $5 or $10. Get a tailor to put some big pockets on the sides for you.

Hank, in all serious now. I don't know your financial sit or even your umpire aspirations but spend the money and get a coat made for you. I know they are expensive, but nothing looks worse than a modified suit coat. They stand out. If you are doing upper level ball, invest a few game fees to this cause. If you get a black one, you'll only buy it once and it will last forever. I bought a custom GD plate coat in the early 90's. I only wore it a few times and now navy is out of style. Since I live and umpire mainly in SoCal, we just don't have the need for one. Even when I travel up into Utah, Oregon, and Washington, I find the Honigs coat plenty warm for games when I am on the dish. Just my dos pesos.

Pale Blue with brown buttons?

Forget ebay and take Klokard's advise. Get one made for you!

This is what they should look like:

Last summer there was a guy selling lots of plate coats on ebay. I bought one. It is navy, not black.
This thing isn't a Flechiemer(sp) by any means, but I only wear one less than five times a year. It was inexpensive, and I would be happy with it... but I bought the wrong size. A little too big.

I'd make somebody a good deal on a 44 Long. Only worn three times.

I agree with those who say you should buy a quality coat. My navy plate coat (Fechheimer) was made in 1997 and it's a much higher quality than the black coat I bought from Honig's a few years ago.
