They are terrible laces. Especially the plate shoe. Go to a military supply store. Buy some #5 black parachute chord. You can pull and pull and it wont break!

Does anyone have an answer for the base shoes?

Why ask that question? If you have an extra 15 minutes (According to Finnerty) just pull the laces out and measure them. It really is not as complicated as you are making it.

I once broke first the lace on one shoe, and then the other in the same sitting. Plate shoes. I began shoehorning them on at 1:35 p.m. By the time I had finished tearing both laces and re-lacing both shoes, it was 1:50 p.m. and I was supposed to be at the field. That was all the 15 minutes was about.

Try to re-lace two New Balance plate shoes in under 15 minutes and then get back to me.

For what it's worth, I went to my local Red Wing boot center and got their waxed work boot laces for my NB 350's and 450's. They have held up for 2 seasons.

I use leather boot laces for my plate shoes.

I wasn't trying to provoke a diss. I'll give your suggestion a try.

If a coach asks you how wide the running lane is down the first base line, do you tell him to get a ruler?

It was a simple question with what I thought was a simple answer. Apparently not.

Okay. I'll start the timer, then go out to the car and retrieve my NB's and spare laces. They need changing anyway.

Ready? Go.

So a NASCAR crew could change 'em out in about 14 seconds. :D

Nahhhh. Probably 3 minutes.

They don't come off as quickly as you'd guess. You can't just yank them from the bottom. But new ones go on quickly.

I tried to make it realistic. I walked to my car and grabbed my bag and brought it in the house and up the stairs to my office. When I was done lacing them, I put them on and tied them, put the bag back in the car and then stopped the timer.

I've only seen an answer for the plate shoes. Care to enlighten me?
