If everything is two by two, might it then be inferred that everything is unclean? I guess carrying seven and seven indicators would be a bit bulky in the ol' ball bag though.

Agreed. I started out umpiring wearing Sears Long Johns underwear for the leg guards, because I couldn't stand the feeling of the straps against my bare skin. When Strongen invented the tights/cup combo, I switched over. The latest ones I wore were the McDavid Hex Pad ones. If you buy those, buy a size down, as they are a bit larger than advertised.
