Balkin' Bob

Anybody see last night's Cubs/Cards game?

In the 9th, R1, Carlos Marmol looks in to get the sign. He starts to come set (raising his upper body) and then steps off the back of the rubber(I did not see a start/stop). He did not reach the set position, he stepped off while in the act of coming set. Davidson balked him.

Sorry I don't have a clip but I don't understand the balk.

30 minutes later i was watching the Reds/Brewers game and David Weathers does the same thing----no call.

If someone has clips of these to post, please do. I would like an explanation.

Thanks.

Cool

midtnblu,

After getting his signs, Marmol started to move his right arm, stopped, and then disengaged. Davidson balked him. It was a balk.

Good call. I didn't see it in live action, but it was obvious on the replay.

I've seen that called by multiple MLB umpires. An easy balk call.

Cool

mdnblu,

Just watching the game tonight and Ted Lilly had a balk called on him.

In "live action", I naturally presumed that "Balkin' Bob" had called it. It appears that it was actually Mike Reilly (U3) who called him on an 8.05(c) violation. Looked like another good call to me.

(Edited to add...)

Upon further review, it was Davidson who called the balk. Davidson was U3 and Reilly was U1.
