The Designated Hitter (FED) is batting for the center fielder. The DH comes into the game as the catcher. A new center fielder comes in to take the place of the catcher in the batting order. A couple of innings later, the starting catcher re-enters, the starting center fielder re-enters and the original DH goes to the bench. Later in the game the center fielder's spot (originally occupird by the DH)comes up. Can the DH re-enter and bat since he was a starter?
I hope this wasn't too confusing. It was for the umpires and one of the coaches in the game. |

The starting defensive person (F8 whom DH batted for) and DH "share" the same spot in the batting lineup. Each is allowed reentry privilege.
When the DH took the field defensively, then F8 was removed from the game. DH remained in the game and entered defensively---he did not "re-enter" at that point. The DH position was lost at that point. F8 later "reentered" with DH being removed. DH later "reenterd" for his first time---legal. F8, for whom the DH originally batted and with whom he shares the batting spot, must be removed and is no longer eligible for any play in that game. Just my opinion, Freix |

So,
Refer to the March 1999 Federation Newsletter. This document, which is considered an official interpretation of NFHS Rules, has your play EXACTLY as referenced.
Each player has re-entry rights so you have what appears to be a "double dip". But it is legal. |
