KC-NYY game delayed due to an injured umpire

Any see it?
How long was the delay? Boxscore states 6 minutes.
Did Layne finish the game?

Saturday's Royals/Yankees game was delayed due to an injured umpire.

HE GAME IS BEING DELAYED DUE TO HOME PLATE UMPIRE JERRY LAYNE BEING HIT BY A PITCH AND HAVING TO LEAVE THE GAME.

Boxscore (scroll to the very bottom).

The press box announcer said it was an 11 minute delay. I was listening on the radio and although I didn't time the delay 11 minutes seems about right.

Box score says 11 minutes.

But more troubling is that this is, what, the 7th guy to go down this year with head/neck issues? I read an article not too long ago (I think I picked it up here) that spoke about an unusually high number of guys getting nailed with foul ball this year. I know most of us have had our share of injuries, but has anybody taken a blow to the head that was a long-term problem?

Nothing long term: I took a nasty shot off my helmet a few weeks ago in a high school game that left me with a headache and a sore neck. I finished the game, but for an inning or two I wondered if I was going to be able to.

It's an odd thing and an odd year -- a private umpire email list I moderate has had six umpires (out of about 50-60) get nailed in the infield with ground balls or line drives (umpire interference) and at least four of us are college umpires as well as high school umpires. Mine was a line drive just above my left knee. Second one in 20 years. But six people on a relatively small list?

Angry

I was behind the plate in two games where my partner got nailed in the "C" spot this year in high school. I have been hit four times in the mask this year once by a flong bat. I wear the HSM and have for about 10 years. The bat chipped the paint on the throat protectro part.

This year I've had less foul balls to the head than the past two years. however took my first one to the throat this year, hit right below the angle of my jaw on the rt side. Very painful, may have scared me more than anything.

Good find! I was looking for a pic and came up empty.
I recall a thread somewhere about the incidence of concussion with the nu-view.

Don't know what a flong bat is but I dated a girl during my college years that liked to have her "G" spot flonged while I wore a mask.
