I've congratulated HS players verbally - "Nice poke, son!" - What the hell is the problem with acknowledging a home run? It's a game, try not to forget that!

ozzy...
c'mon....a high five on the field is a lot different than muttering, "nice poke, son" as he strolls by in his trot.....no friggin way this guy doesn't get 'dinged' by a superior for that stunt ...it is a game, ozzy, and that means that someone playing that game just got touched for a homerun and they probably aren't too pleased at the moment. They don't need to see an umpire do that.....just do your job. I sincerely think you posted that just to spur conversation on....it worked and I know you would never do that. |

I worked the State Softball Tournament in 2007. In the frist game the girls tried to approach the umpires with a handslap. We declined & politely told them we thought such a jesture would be inappropriate. In the following games we told the coaches before hand while such jestures are nice we felt it inappropriate considering the venue & importance of the games.
They understood. Regards |
