check swing apeal

Anyone know what year the check swing appeal by the catcher or manager started?

Old Sweater,

The 9.02(c) "Note" mandating that the PU check with his partner was first published in 1976. The practice was "customary" well before that.

Yeah, I was all over the internet and couldn't find what specific year they started the catcher/manager appeal.

Well, I've followed baseball since the early 1950's and I remember seeing umpires going to their partners for appeals back then! I don't think that the plate umpire went on his own (especially in those days) so someone had to ask!

BlueZebra started umping in 56 and the appeal was in effect then. Just seems no one knows what year it started. I know that you didn't see as many appeals asked for by the catchers in the latter 50's-70's as there is now or I didn't notice them as much until the playoffs.
