Baseball-Softball Rules Differences

Greetings colleagues,

I work in a small association in Northern California which requires our umpires to work both HS Baseball and softball. I have seen documentation that shows the differences between HS Baseball and Softball in a table format. I am not here to start a flame war or discuss which game is better - we can begin a new thread for that if you want. I am just looking for a teaching tool that will help better prepare our officials for the season ahead. If one of you have a document, or a link to a web site that I could go to to download that document, I would forever be in your debt.

Thanks for the assistance,

Dan Renninger

Dan,

You need to provide more detail, such as what levels the Assoc. covers (HS, youth ball, etc) as that will have a major bearing on how folks will respond.

Dan -

I dl'ed a document that shows the rule differences b/t BB and SB in a table format - I can't remember where I got it from, but I think it's the one you're looking for -- PM me your address and I'll email it to you. It's a good place to start, but don't rely on it alone...Bob

Dan,
Go to the NFHS website. Under Softball you will find a PDF document that can be downloaded on Baseball/Softball rule differences. The NFHS points out that it is NOT an official document but it is very helpful if you teach both sports.

Comparison - Baseball vs. Softball

Wikipedia has a chart similar to what you're describing. It shows several differences (and resources) among Baseball, Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch.
