I saw him in Cincinnati last week -- we sat about 20 rows behind home plate. Let me tell ya, anyone who works his stance should watch HIM work it. Smooth.

I came home after a game a couple month's ago, and turned on the game that was already on and after watching for awhile I thought "that plate ump is working the GD very very well". Then it dawned on me, major league game, very possible it was Gerry Davis. And it was. Duh!

watched alot of that game, gerry davis took a foul ball off his right shoulder, looked like it shook him for a second or two. then, sorry i do not know who, talked about umpires going back to the "baloon" protector, that with the outside protection umpires set up "above" the catcher, and had a better view of the corners, just more bad info for the rats.

I heard that too. I heard another discussion (I think it was during the NCAA World Series) that "they can't see the outside corner as well (this way) because they're looking all the way across the plate to see it." Brief discusion about the angle of view etc. and calling pitches that are outside as strikes. Completely oppostie from anything proven to be true.
