Have any of you seen this new chest protector from GD? What do you think?

It looks like something Brett Favre should wear. I've never understood the need for bicep protectors. The guys in the Bigs don't even wear them and they've got 100 mph stuff coming their way.

Yes, foul balls hurt, but if you are really that scared about being hit, this may not be the job for you.

The body of the gear looks like it will protect you from anything Juco and below. Maybe it would make a good summer protector if it is that light. When I see Davis wear it when Randy Johnson is on the mound, I'll know what HE thinks of it.

Interesting question. I asked Santa to bring me a pair of GD shinguards. Now I am wondering what Davis wears for shin and chest protection?

I thought it was funny that on the first page of the 2005 catalog he said he was looking forward to using the New Davis Feather Weight Mask...although he uses the Wilson Chrome Moliben mask in games. From the pics Ive seen of the Riddell Power (before my time I must admit), it seems VERY similar to the Platinum.

Wore the earlier GD lightweight vest for last 2 years and it was great. Got hit once or twice with no problems. Be a lightweight user for 10 years. Had an Allstar before this. All levels of ball.

What about the 98mph fastball you say?
I saw one on TV last year. The lightweight have worked fine for me, espeacially in the heat.

I have the Riddell Power and have worked with partners who wear the Platinum - They are NOT very similar

Had the Riddell Power, then I traded it for a bunch of gear, thinking I would just buy a new one next season. Then Riddell decided to quit making them. Another bonehead move on my part.

Davis is also offering a new style of pants, looks to be charcoal grey like Honigs poly-wool style pant. They say it will look good with any partners pants, but charcoal and heather are two distinctly different colors. Personally, I would like to see a switch over to the charcoal pants and black / blue tops, maybe this will be a start.
