Bunt oder just a checked swing contact ?

hi,
situation : 1-2 count, batter sets him self up to bunt but keeps both of his hands at the bottom part of the bat (like he use to when he swings at a pitch) , does not swing but puts the bat out in front and makes contact with the ball. it looks exactly like a bunt exept his upper hand is not next to the barrel.

is this a bunt oder can he try to put the ball in play as often as he wants to(foulball woulld not strike him out) ?

Umpire judgment -- but probably a bunt as described (or, at least, as I'm envisioning it). See the definition of BUNT in 2.00 -- the position of the hands do not matter

Bob's right: it matters what you do with the bat, not where your hands are, and it's umpire judgment whether it's a swing or a bunt attempt.

bunt = not swung at, but intentionally met.

Bruno: "oder" should be "or" in English.

They'll need a Yarborough knife or a locksmith's education to get into mine.

Ich kann fast alles verstehen

Bruno--

Ace
