I guess I have a unique perspective on this situation. In order to work for MLB, I had to consent to background and credit checks. Needless to say, I don't make anywhere near the money or have nearly as important a job or have any potential influence on the outcome of any games. I can't say I sympathize with them, but I also don't have a union backing me.

JP, you hit the nail on the head. MLB required the checks PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. You knew what they wanted and agreed - no problems there.

Food for thought: MLB now asks, after years of zero issue employment, for complete access to anything and everything without restriction, with ability to terminate your employment without due process or even telling you why. Would you perhaps have a different perspective?

(No need to answer, as I wouldn;t want MLB to penalize you).

I doubt that. I'll wager that MLB has more than one employee that underwent a background check,

Yes, but probably not more than one employee posting on this forum. Thus my use of the word, "unique," here.

I'm sorry. I didn't see that you identified yourself as the only employee of MLB posting here when claiming unique status. I thought you said, "I guess I have a unique perspective on this situation. In order to work for MLB, I had to consent to background and credit checks."

The thing is, umpire's already have background checks, from what I've read. This particular issue revolves around some extra tools that MLB wants to use during these background checks.

This fact seems to be lost in the debate that I am hearing fans and fellow umpires alike.
