balk??

R2, F1 in set position, turns to throw to 2nd in an attempt to pick off R2. no one covers the bag and F1 throws the ball to F4 in his normal position. balk or legal?

i know that if F1 throws to first with R1, he must throw to F3 who is attempting to make a "play" on the runner. ie - F1 throws to F3 who is playing well behind the runner and standing still - balk, but if F1 throws to F3 who is breaking towards the bag and still catches the ball 5 ft away from the bag - legal - correct?

thanks

Cool

newump,

First sitch: perfectly legal, not a balk.

Second sitch: sounds like you've got it. If the umpire judges that the defense was attempting a legitimate play, it's not a balk.
